Here are some photos from our Sunday Halloween Fun-Raiser! Thanks to everyone who came out and special thanks to all who worked to make this a great event– The Boy’s Club of NY, Members and Board of LaPlaza and especially our neighboring business sponsors who were very generous:

Haunted Garden Halloween FUN-raiser

La Plaza tranforms into a spooky garden of Halloween delight for children of all ages!

NOTE: DUE TO A BETTER FORECAST THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD ON THE RAINDATE -SUNDAY OCTOBER 30

From 12-6pm, activites for children will include: arts & crafts, face painting, dancing, scary scenarios, a Mad Scientist lab, costume swap and free bags of candy. From 7-10pm, adults only can enjoy complimentary food and beverages from Sunburnt Cow, Brix & Barnyard & The Wayland. Raffle prizes, live music and dancing to follow!

Children $5 suggested donation

Adults $10 suggested donation w/costume; $20 suggested donation w/o costume.

La Plaza Cultural Trees Devastated by High Winds of Irene

Weeping willow and adjacent tree before...

Tropical storm Irene’s winds took down our largest and most prominent willow tree. In addition, two other mature trees were knocked down creating havoc in our beloved garden. This domino effect also may have compromised another adjacent tree which we are trying to save. We have worked with the city to address the downed trees. With these difficult losses we have incurred expenses which will stretch our limited resources. We welcome any donation to the garden that you would be able to give. Please send a check made out to “La Plaza Cultural” to the address below:

3 seats are up for election on the board for La Plaza Cultural. If you or someone you know is interested in having the most direct influence on policy, administration and projects pertaining to the garden and have been a garden member for at least a year, then PLEASE run for a board seat. It requires attending 6 board meetings a year and having significant participation in at least one committee. Yale Day of Service – Saturday, July 11

Another big work day for La Plaza Cultural with the help of Yale Alum. We will be focusing on renovating the pond. The grill will get fired up and food and beverages will be served. In solidarity of all hard working volunteers, please come to the garden in the spirit of lending a helping hand. Contact Ross Martin if you are interested in getting involved.
